RunTown: Biography, Music Career, Endorsements, Net Worth

Run Town (real name, Douglas Jack Agu) is an Enugu-state born Nigerian singer. He was born on the 19th of August 1989. He also writes and produces songs. His music work cuts across a wide variety of song genres; from Rap to Rhythm and Blues, to Hip hop and also Reggae.

He lost his father at a tender age; and later in 2007, he relocated to lagos state from his hometown in Enugu state along with his friend and renowned musician Phyno. Soon after, he began to work with top artistes like Timaya and J-Martins in producing songs. A year after he moved to Lagos, he co-founded a record label named Penthauz, along with his friend Phyno.

His first two singles to be released on this label were titled ‘Activity Pikin’ and ‘Party Like It’s 1980.’ He came to the limelight when he released his song ‘Gallardo’, in collaboration with ace musician Davido. Not long after that, Eric-Manny Entertainment (owned by Prince Okwudili Umenyiora, MD/CEO Dilly Motors) signed him on a massive multi-million naira contract.

RunTown Music Career:

His love for music dates back to his secondary school days. He initially wanted to become a basketball player, but he was finding it difficult getting off to a good start in that field. He had a raw talent in music, and he was actively engaged in miming and singing competitions in school. It was on one occassion where he decided to try out his skills at a studio that he met Phyno and the pair instantly bonded.

After listening to his vocal skills, Phyno produced a beat for him and instantly loved his vocal accompaniment. Unfortunately, his progress in that line was temporarily halted after his father died and his mother took up interest in politics; but he did not allow that setback to deter him for long though, as soon after that, he found his way to lagos with his friend Phyno to go into full time music.

Even though RunTown started working on music collaborations as early as in 2007, his music career did not really take off until 2010 when he signed his first major contract with Eric Manny Entertainment. So far till date, he has done collaborations with a number of top Nigerian and international artistes like Wizkid, Timaya, Uhuru, Davido, J-Martins, M.I, Shizzi, WizzyPro, Phyno, and DJ Khaled.

His first single was titled ‘RunTown’, probably to announce his introduction to the music scene.

However, in due time RunTown came out publicly and cleared the air, though residues of the controversy still exist till today.

In mid-2016, he began having crises with his record label, Eric Manny Entertainment. The label had allegedly obtained a court order prohibiting him from recording songs and performing at events, stating that he had the habit of doing the aforementioned activities and more without the knowledge and permission of the label.
