Richard Mofe-Damijo (fondly referred to as RMD) is a popular Nigerian actor and businessman. He was born on the 6th of July 1961. He is 58 years old and hails from Delta state in south-south Nigeria. His early childhood was spent in Delta state. He attended the popular Anglican Grammar School, Warri and was a very prominent member of the school’s Drama Club. Upon graduation, he gained admission into the prestigious University of Benin to study Theatre Arts. Afterwards, he attended the University of Lagos, where he graduated with a degree in Law. This was in 2004, and by this time he had already begun to feature in movies. In fact, on some occasions, while he was studying at the University of Lagos, he had to travel to locations for movie shoots.

Career:

Richard Mofe-Damijo is undisputedly the most respected actor in the Nigerian movie industry today. He has been undoubtedly on the movie scene right from childhood. He was a prominent member of the drama club at his secondary school, and even in the prestigious university, his passion for acting fuelled his desire to study Theatre Arts at the University at a time when the field was not very popular and well-appreciated.

RMD has invariably played major roles in both TV series and feature films. The year 2003 was undisputedly his breakout year. That year he played major roles in a total of 13 top movies, and in following years his annual average appearances onset increased to a minimum of 18 movies. He first shot into the limelight via a movie he featured in which was titled ‘Ripples’, which also featured Genevieve Nnaji. In 2014, he featured prominently in Ayo Makun’s blockbuster movie, 30 Days in Atlanta which was the highest-grossing movie in Nollywood at the time. He also recently featured in The Wedding party movie.

In 2005, he bagged the honorary award of the Best Actor at the Africa Movie Academy Awards. Since then he has won several awards including the 2012 honorary Special Recognition award and the Lifetime Achievement Award of 2016. Like many other movie actors, RMD has begun producing movies of his own. In fact, he now owns a movie production company, RMD Productions Limited. He is currently working on an interesting movie project for a series on TV called ‘The Mr X Family Show’.

Recall that he recently served as the Delta State Commissioner for Culture and Tourism between 2007 and 2013. RMD has been lawfully married two times. His first wife, May Ellen Ezekiel was a popular showbiz personality. She was a TV show host and also an editor for one of the popular magazines in the country. However, unimaginable tragedy struck viciously in the year 1996: she was diagnosed with Fibroid and scheduled for surgery at a top hospital in Lagos. Unfortunately, she was snatched by the cold hands of death as the extensive operation was unsuccessful. She was survived by RMD and a beloved son. Moving on, in the year 2000, RMD got re-married to another gorgeous woman, Jumobi Adegbesan, a Journalist. Together they now co-parent three precious sons and two daughters, and they already have a grandchild. Judging from social media pictures and posts, it appears that RMD’s noble family is a close-knit one. They almost always travel together to exotic locations and vacations.
