How old is Timaya? is one of the favorite questions posed by fans of the Nigerian music industry. The Nigerian singer and songwriter Inetimi Alfred Odon, known with the stage name Timaya, was born on Aug.15, 1980 in Port Harcourt, Rivers State, Nigeria.
Growing up in a large family, Timaya was the youngest of fifteen children who lived in Agip Estate, Port Harcourt. His father was a banker and his mother a trader. For his primary education, he attended Assemblies of God Nursery and Primary School and began his secondary education at Nkpolu Oroworukwo in Port Harcourt.
He later moved to Lagos with his older brother and sister to attend Ikeja Grammar School where he obtained his secondary school certificate. He later relocated to Port Harcourt to study Banking and Finance but had to drop out after the first semester as a result of his poor performance in examinations.
He then moved back to Lagos to join Eedris Abdulkareem’s hip-hop group as a backup vocalist. After a three-year stint with the group, he left to focus on his solo career. He began to make collaborations with fellow aspiring artists and made his first cameo appearance in an unreleased music video by UDX, a rap group based in Lagos.
Not one to give up, he met K-Solo in Mafoluku who produced his first major hit titled “Dem Mama” after listening to him perform the acapella version. Following the success of his single, Timaya decided to continue with K-Solo and recorded seven more songs for his album titled “True Story” which was released in 2007.
The Dem Mama Crooner has gone on to record many singles and albums which have earned him many awards.
