In 1964, he attended the Mechanical Transport Officer’s Course at the Army Mechanical Transport School in Borden, United Kingdom.

He was appointed Brigade Major, Second Sector, First Infantry Division, in April 1967 to July 1967.

He became the governor of the then Northern Eastern State from the 1st of August 1975 to the 3rd of February 1976.

Before he became President in 2015 he contested for president unsuccessfully in 2003, 2017 and 2011. He is known far and wide for his anti-corruption stance.

Following the end of military leadership in Nigeria, Buhari decided to take responsibility for anything that happened when he was Head of State, saying he cannot change the past. He calls himself a “converted democrat”
