Nollywood is one of the world’s top five movie industries. This, in part, is due to the emergence of highly-skilled movie producers, scriptwriters, actors and actresses. In Nigeria, there are tons of highly talented actors and actresses whose expertise has helped transform the Nigerian movie industry. In the past, Nigerian movies were always regarded as boring and undesirable by default, but now all that has changed thanks to the expertise of people like Toyin Abraham and a host of other top actors, actresses and producers.
This post contains all you need to know about Toyin Abraham. Here we explore her life, career, and exploits in the movie industry. Read on!
Toyin Abraham is one of the heavyweights of the Nigerian movie industry. She is unarguably one of the most popular Nigerian actresses and one of the first to have begun directing and producing movies on their own. She was born Oluwatoyin Aimakhu on the 5th of September 1984 in Edo state. She is currently 35 years old. Her early years were spent in Ibadan, southwest Nigeria. She is the youngest child of her parents. Her father was a businessman while her mother was a Cleric. According to her, even though her parents were not very wealthy and influential, childhood was fun with lots of friends and adventures.
Toyin Abraham attended primary school at Saint Annes School, Ibadan. There she engaged in various extra-curricular activities like football, handball and music. She excelled in the area of sports so much at school that she earned herself a place on the State Sports Team. She proceeded to the Ibadan Polytechnic for her tertiary education and graduated with an HND (Higher National Diploma) Certificate in Marketing.
Toyin Abraham officially began her acting career in the year 2003. At the time, she was still living in Ibadan. It so happened that veteran actress, Bukky Wright visited Ibadan sometime that year for a movie shoot. Toyin was among those who came around and featured among the extras, but her talent shone amid everyone. She would eventually have a discussion with Bukky Wright and a few of the top personnel at the movie scene that day, and those discussions led to her pursuing a full-time career in acting. Since that time, she has featured in numerous movies, both in English and Yoruba languages. She is now one of the household names in the Nigerian movie industry today. In addition to featuring in many movies and being a fans’ favourite, Toyin has won numerous awards and award nominations for her expertise. In 2013, she was nominated for the award of Best Supporting Actress at the Best of Nollywood Awards for her role in the movie titled Ebimi ni. Furthermore, like many other top actors and actresses, Toyin Abraham has spread her wings and diversified her expertise into movie production. Celebrities in Nigeria are no strangers to big-money endorsement deals and contracts and Toyin Abraham has had her fair share of that. In the year 2015, she was selected by the Peoples’ Democratic Party to feature in a campaign jingle and rally for the then-PDP Presidential Candidate, incumbent President Goodluck Ebele Jonathan. The president was running for re-election and sought the services of Toyin and a few other popular celebrities to boost his popularity among the masses. Toyin featured and lent her full support for the PDP at the time, infamously stating that she was even prepared to give her life for the party. However, she later issued a public apology, retracted her statement and urged her fans via social media to refrain from all forms of electoral violence in the name of lending support to any politician.

Not much is known about Toyin Abraham’s personal life. However, we do know that she has been married three different times and that each of her first two marriages resulted in heartbreak. In 2010 she got married to a certain Adeniyi Solanke but it failed to live beyond one year: by 2011, the marriage hit the rocks and she had to start over again. In 2014, she also met and fell in love with one Adeniyi Johnson. She had hoped that she had found the love of her life, but alas, it was not so: by 2016, they separated. On July 4 2019, she shocked her fans and followers all over the world when she announced her engagement to Nollywood Actor and Producer, Kolawole Ajeyemi, for whom she now has a son. So far, both of them appear to be good together with signs of readiness to go the long haul; but then, in the world of celebrities, anything can happen. There is a general assumption that celebrity marriages do not last, and Toyin Abraham’s two failed marriages lend further credence to that assertion.
