Nigerian Men’s Traditional Fashion Styles

In a cultural oriented country like Nigeria, where culture and tradition are given great importance, men traditional wears can’t go extinct despite the western development, rather it will be fashioned in a new style. One can add his or her own taste and ideas to make them quite classy, stylish and attractive.

Following trend helps people especially teenagers, cope with peer pressure and it even results in the acceptance among liberal and contemporary people.

The numerous traditional wears in Nigeria is as a result of diversified cultural system of the country, as each ethnic group has its own traditional dressing which is peculiar to them. In Yoruba land, Buba and Sokoto, Dansiki, Dandogo, Agbada, Kembe, Sanyan, are part of the various traditional wears known with this ethnic group. Wearing throb and hat are known mostly with the Igbo tribe and Hausa men are known with their big clothe resembling Yoruba’s Buba and Sokoto.

To get the best look for your traditional wear styles, it is good if they are sewn with traditional attire like Ankara and Kampala, and well tailored to your size. Virtually all Nigerian tailors could sew their traditional wears very well because most of them start their learning with Native wears.

Traditional wears are not only apt for traditional occasions or festive activities; it could also be worn to just for the purpose of just representing cultural identity. It is at times necessary to hold on to them if we wish to preserve our tradition. If we don’t promote our culture and custom, then nobody will. People traveling overseas tend to adapt western trends prevailing there, forgetting their national identity and traditions.
