Songs and Music Career:
WizKid is a singer and songwriter. His music career started in 2001, when he started singing as part of a gospel band called ‘The Glorious Five’. The group consisted of himself and his church friends, and they even released an album which didn’t do too well in the market. The group disintegrated after Wizkid announced his desire to pursue pop music fully. From then on until 2006, he was known as ‘Lil Prinz’. In 2009, he signed his first real record deal with E.M.E records owned by musician and nollywood star Bankole Wellington a.k.a Banky W. His first studio single ‘Holla At Your Boy’ was released in 2010 and he quickly became famous. At the initial stage of his career, he credited Naeto C as his mentor who put his through the rudiments of music in the Nigerian music industry, and he also grew up watching and working alongside the likes of OJB Jezreel, Sound Sultan and E Face Idibia. In 2011 he was shot directly into limelight when he released his debut studio album titled Superstar, having hot singles like ‘Love My Baby’, ‘Tease Me/Bad Guys’, Oluwa Lo Ni’, ‘Don’t Dull’, and ‘Pakurumo’, most of which were released earlier in 2010. His second album titled ‘Ayo’ was released in 2014 and was also a major success.
Two years later, he collaborated with Canadian superstar Drake on the hit song ‘One Dance’. The song topped the music charts in more than two dozen countries around the world. He has also collaborated with a number of international stars from Nigeria, Ghana, and the United States of America.
WizKid officially left E.M.E records in 2014 after seeing out his five-year contract. He then founded his own record label, Starboy Records and has since signed on a number of artistes.
WizKid is a king of Endorsements. In 2012, he signed a deal with beverage giants Pepsi for a one year duration. The deal was reportedly worth $350,000, and after the one-year expiration it was renewed for another two years. The following year, he signed another multi-million naira deal with telecom giants MTN, and in the same year, he signed yet another deal with Guiness. In 2015 reports stated that he ditched MTN to sign a blockbuster deal with Glo.
Little is known about his parents and siblings. However, we can categorically state that the highly controversial musician is not married, but is a father of a two-year old boy, Boluwatife Balogun from his babymama, Oluwanishola Ogudugu. As a matter of fact, reports indicate that he once dated Tania Omotayo and is currently dating american act Justin Skye.
