Davido is one of Nigeria’s finest musicians. He is very talented and well connected. He has won numerous awards within and outside Nigeria, and is also very wealthy. Davido is one of those who have made Nigerian music more popular in the western world, as he regularly performs at shows and tours all over the world. He has performed alongside the likes of TuFace Idibia, Ice Prince, Naeto C, Tiwa Savage, Skales, D’Banj, Phyno, and many other top Nigerian artistes.
Davido was born in Atlanta, Georgia, in the United States of America on the 21st of November, 1992 to billionaire businessman Chief Deji Adeleke and Vero Adeleke, his parents. He is currently 25 years old, and his original birth name is David Adedeji Adeleke. Much unlike many Nigerian artistes, Davido had an expensive upbringing. He attended the famous British International School (BIS), Lagos, before proceeding to study Business Administration at Oakwood University. He would eventually drop out of University, and in 2011 he relocated to Nigeria.
Songs and Music Career:
Davido’s music career started as far back as during his time at Oakwood University. He was part of a music crew at Oakwood called KB International, and he was known to have procured musical instruments and equipments for use in making beats and soundtracks. However, he soon started failing academically and had to drop out due to bad grades. Afterwards he moved to the United Kingdom to continue in his music path, but things didn’t go according to plan, so he came back to Nigeria.
In 2011, Davido collaborated with Clarence Peters to start working on his debut album titled ‘Omo Baba Olowo’, meaning ‘Son of A Wealthy Man.’ They produced a couple of tracks which instantly hit the airwaves and became popular. Between 2011 and 2012 Davido and his team produced several tracks supporting the Omo Baba Olowo album, and they later produced videos for most of them. Some of the tracks they released include ‘Back When’, ‘Dami Duro’, and others.
From 2013 to 2015, Davido began to release hit tracks as part of his second album. Tracks in this album include Gobe, One of a Kind, Skelewu, Aye, and ‘Tchelete’. He worked with a number of producers including Clarence Peters, UK-based Moe Musa, South-african outfit Godfather Productions, and some other experts both within and outside the country.
Like Wizkid, Davido has also done collaborations with international artistes. In 2015, he released a collaboration with Meek Mill, while he has also promised another with american rap superstar Rick Ross.
Having worked with Sony’s RCA records, Davido now has his own record label called HKN Music, and co-owns it with his elder brother Adewale Adeleke. So far, he has signed on a number of top and upcoming artistes including B.Red, Sina Rambo, Mayorkun, Dremo, and few others.
He is a recipient of many awards, and has also featured in a movie titled Legend At Sixty.
While little is known about Davido’s family, we can affirm that Davido lost his mother in 2003. She was a university lecturer. His father, meanwhile, is a business magnate with several investments within and outside Nigeria. Davido is not married; but like many other Nigerian artistes, he has at least two baby mamas. The first is Sophia Momodu, who bore him a pretty daughter named Aurora Imade Adeleke. He has had series of controversies with her within the past four years, and it is believed that Sophia was highly disappointed at Davido’s decision to not marry her, despite the fact that she’d had a child for him. The second baby mama is Amanda, an American, and she bore him another daughter named Hailey Veronica Adeleke.
Davido is no stranger to endorsements. In 2012, he reportedly bagged a 30 million naira endorsement deal with MTN, while in 2013 he also signed another lucrative one with Guiness that saw him perform alongside the likes of P Square, D’Banj, Burna Boy, Tiwa Savage, Olamide, and other top nigerian stars.
