Federal University of Technology, Minna

The Federal University of Technology, Minna, popularly called FUTMINNA, was founded in 1983. It is one of many universities created by the federal government specifically to breach the country’s technological needs.

FUTMINNA is a designated Centre of Excellence in Biotechnology and Genetic Engineering. It also has a core competence in the development of vaccines and drugs.

The university has 8 schools of engineering as well as a school of post graduate studies. It awards graduate and post graduate degrees.

Federal University of Technology, Akure

FUTA was created by the federal government in 1981. It is another university that specializes in producing graduates with practical and theoretical knowledge of technologies in the country.

It was ranked the best university of technology in Nigeria by Webometrics in 2015. The institution has several amenities and facilities which makes learning engineering smooth and less stressful.

Federal University of Technology, Owerri

The federal university of technology in Owerri is another varsity that specializes in awarding technological degrees. It is located in Imo state and is popularly known as FUTO.

The varsity is held in high regard by many and has a high rating, especially in the eastern part of the country. Furthermore the teaching techniques at the university are quite fantastic. There are also workshops where students learn to build stuffs. Recently students of the school built a solar powered three-wheeled vehicle.

Ladoke Akintola University of Technology

Popularly known as LAUTECH, this university is located in Ogbomosho in Oyo state. It was established by the state government in 1990. It was formerly called the Oyo state University of Technology.

LAUTECH has 6 faculties and a college. For two consecutive seasons – 2003 and 2004, it was rated the best state university in Nigeria by the Nigerian Universities Commission (NUC).

Obafemi Awolowo University

Located in Ile-Ife, Osun state, the Obafemi Awolowo University is a highly ranked university in the country. OAU has a mammoth alumni size, and these people are important parts of the society.

Located in Kwara, UNILORIN was founded in 1975 and the Faculty of Engineering & Technology wasn’t created until 1978. The school also has lots of facilities and a rich academic atmosphere that aids learning.

University of Lagos

The University of Lagos is located in Akoka, in the commercial hub of the nation. It prides itself on great achievements in the engineering field.

University of Nigeria, Nsukka

Commonly referred to as UNN, the University of Nigeria, Nsukka was founded in 1955 and was formally opened in October 1960. Since this time, UNN has been producing the best graduates in the engineering field.

University of Benin

UNIBEN is one of the first generation federal universities in the country. It was founded in 1970 and actually started out as an Institute of Technology. Since then it has been making improvements in the area.

In 2006, the federal government established Intellectual Property and Technology Transfer Offices (IPTTOs) in major innovation-generating institutions nationwide. One was established in UNIBEN a year later. These offices ensure intellectual property administration is integrated in the university system, and is in collaboration with the World Intellectual Property Organization (WIPO) in Geneva, Switzerland.

The university also has a School of Biomedical Engineering Technology which works in tandem with the school’s medical college.
